Barbie has a fashionable makeover! {by London designers}

My sisters and I were extreme Barbie fanatics as children. I still get nostalgic seeing the modern Barbies. We always say 'Man, why couldn't our Barbies have had style like this back then?!' {which were the 90's...maybe generations before us said the same thing lol}. I'm happy little girls get to play with such fashionable Barbies tho.

Check out these dolls designed by London designers: Nasier Mazhar, Fred Butler and Sister by Sibling. Get the scoop here!

Get the Scoop!!: Who is bring who for for the Met Gala {designer & muse}

My favorite look from the 2012 Met Gala
Karolina Kurkova in Rachel Zoe

OMG!! I told you about how excited I am to catch the live stream red-carpet of the Met Gala via the Moda Operandi and I mentioned I couldn’t wait to see who designers chose as their muse….well guess what, thanks to the awesome fashion site Fashionista, they have the scoop {with help from WWD and the Post}
Here is the info they have, and this is not confirmed {we’re still check it lol} :
Michael Kors is taking Jennifer Lopez
Valentino is taking Gwyneth Paltrow
Dior is taking Jennifer Lawrence and Marion Cotillard
Alexander Wang is taking Julianne Moore for Balenciaga
Tommy Hilfiger is hosting at his table and dressing (with a little help from Trash & Vaudeville) a very motley crew including Debbie Harry, Nicki Minaj, Zooey Deschanel, Lily Aldridge, screenwriter Jamie Linden, music publicist Jason Weinberg, musician Marky Ramone with wife Marion, actress Thalia Mottola, music executive Tommy Mottola, and Kings of Leon lead vocalist Caleb Followill
Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy are taking Elle and Dakota Fanning
Joseph Altuzarra is taking Allison Williams
Brian Atwood is taking Elizabeth Banks
Christopher Kane is taking Stella Tennant
Nina Ricci’s Peter Copping is taking Carolyn Murphy
Diane Von Furstenberg is taking Emma Roberts
Tory Burch is taking Jessica Alba
Topshop is taking Jaime King and Julianne Hough
Kenzo’s Humberto Leon and Carol Lim are taking Solange Knowles
Anthony Vaccarello is taking Gisele Bundchen
Riccardo Tisci is taking fellow co-chair Rooney Mara
Burberry is taking (rumored new face) Sienna Miller
Peter Pilotto is taking Brooklyn Decker
Samsung is taking Psy
Saint Laurent is taking Greta Gerwig (we hear)

John Galliano is not attending, even though his designs are featured in the exhibit. “One step at a time,” Galliano’s publicist Liz Rosenberg told the New York Post, when asked about whether the designer would attend the gala, adding, “and that’s one huge mother f – - kin’ staircase.” (We bow down Liz!)
I am more excited! OH and it seems that some women attendees are having a tough time getting in punk mode…this quote is cute:

“We keep running into the same problem, which is that rich women don’t want to look punk, or grunge,” Decades’ Cameron Silver, who’s helping to dress people for the big day, told the New York Times‘ Eric Wilson. “Not that many women want to look like Nancy Spungen.”

 LOL. That’s all I got!

FNO {Fashion's Night Out} no more?!

It looks like fashion’s favorite nightFashion’s Night Out {America}…is going on hiatus, well at least for 2013.

This special night of fashion began in New York, in 2009 and expanded to 4,500 FNO events in 500 cities across the U.S. This IS a big deal for FNO shoppers, but it’s not all bad.

Get the rest of the scoop HERE via Fashionista.

I went to FNO in Atlanta {Atlantic Station} last year, and I was a little disappointed. It’s not like I was in NY, so I get it. I will say, there were sales of mostly 30% off items, whereas NY does not have sales, which is a contributing factor in cancelling this event.  We’ll see what happens next year…a revamp can’t hurt!

Time to learn Mandarin! {Rosetta Stone}

This is something we all should take kind of serious.  I’ve been hearing a lot about this Mandarin language becoming more popular.
My mom told me this a few years back and I’ve heard it on a few TV shows, now fashion sites are weighing in on it.  Time to pay attention and for good reason…looks like I may be hitting up my nearest Borders for Rosetta Stone.  Fashion Folks it’s time to learn Mandarin!

I read a great article on Fashionista.  I’m going to summarize a few points for you:

  • Dec. '12 - Chinese shoppers officially surpassed American shoppers as the #1 consumer of luxury goods.
  • Recently in Europe, Burberry doubled the number of Mandarin speaking sales associates  and they have already seen a 15% increase in revenue and in the Asia Pacific region.
  • Over the next 3 to 4 years Chinese tourist's numbers are expected to reach 90 million. Retailers are planning to strategiclly use Mandarin speaking associates, catering to these tourist…according to Patrica Pao, CEO of PAO Principle.

This is an article you must read….it’s the future, check it out HERE!

Get The Scoop!!: Who was Beyoncé wearing during the halftime show?! {Watch This!!}

Photo: Hollywood Reporter

How about those Ravens huh?! I’m happy for Ray Lewis, leaving the league on top...what a bang! #CongratsRavens I must say I was also rooting for PURPLE. Its just cuter and even nice to see on the fellas {I’m such a chick};)  Now, how about that Halftime Show!

Beyoncé put on a great performance; I told you there were going to be some surprises!  I thought all of the blue was cute, which of course represented her baby girl. My favorite part was seeing Destiny’s Child reunited…that Kelly Rowland had me speechless and Michelle’s outfit was adorable.  All of the ladies looked spectacular!

 Kudos to Beyoncé for sharing her moment with a lesser known designer.  His name is Rubin Singer {photoed with Beyoncé below}, a 34 year old NY based designer {Russian decent}. Singer launched his clothing label in  2007 in New York, so he is a little seasoned.  He is already picking up steam due to his latest work for Beyoncé.

 Not only did he make Beyoncé’s look, he also made Michelle’s and her squad of 120 backup dancers {Kelly wore a custom leather bodysuit by Emilio Pucci}. That is incredible!  Beyoncé’s bodysuit was made of python, iguana, leather and lace and everything was assembled by hand.

Hat’s off to designer Ruben Singer.  Fashionista recently interviewed him.  It’s pretty kool to see how everything came about. Read the full interview here.

Rubin Singer's raw sketch via rubinsinger.com

The pieces worn by Beyoncé and her crew are not far off from the pieces in Singers latest collection {he’s showing at fashion week next week his fall/winter 2013 collection}
via Fashionista:
The collection is called “Valkyrie’s Dominion” – what’s it all about? It’s really about a strong empowered woman and making her feel amazing in fashion. I was also inspired by Helmut Newton photography and German film stars from the ’30s like Marlene Dietrich.
...and check out this philosophy for his work:

Lots of people are hearing your name for the first time today–what do you want people to know about you?
They should know that the philosophy of my clothes is social artwork. My construction and my draping are the most important elements of my work. The most amazing thing about the performance was that all three pieces she wore were representative of what I do: The black motorcycle jacket with asymmetrical collar was all about construction; the skirt was draped, and it was very intrinsic to the draping I do–layered and multidimensional; and then the paneling and use of exotic skins and leather on the bodysuit. [Singer used python, iguana, lamb leather, and Chantilly lace to construct the bodysuit.]

This just gives me life and inspiration as a fellow designer!

Coach is broadening their horizions {clothing line}

We are big fans of re-branding.  It really can’t hurt a company…well unless the new direction is just all wrong. Hopefully Coach can hit this one out the park!

photo: Coach FB Page

  Coach, an affordable luxury {handbag and accessory} brand, is in the process of broadening  their horizons…with a clothing line and more lifestyle products. This is GREAT news for Coach Lovers!
   via Fashionista:
“The reality is that the marketplace has shifted,” chairman and chief executive officer Lew Frankfort told WWD. “We’re responding transformationally to take advantage of the opportunity. It’s not as if we’re static.”
Coach already has great price points, so let’s hope this all goes very well.  THEN Michael Kors {love him dearly} and Tory Burch are going to have new competition, being that they are the top lifestyle brands...according to WWD.
 “Instead of designing accessories to fill a need, we’re thinking more about the woman, who she is, where she goes, what is her life like and how does it feel, to move Coach from…where you think of a Coach bag, to now when you think of Coach, you will think of a woman or a man and you think of their lifestyle,” Reed Krakoff, the brand’s president and executive creative director, said. It’s not about the “it-bag” anymore.

Azealia Banks shares her thoughts on the Fashion Industry

Interesting news going on in the fashion industry. Here is a great article and discussion piece:  Hip Hop artist on the rise, Azealia Banks, feels that the fashion industry eats up new artist and spits them out for the next {I'm paraphrasing here...a little strong lol}.

Photo: Azealia Banks {Facebook}

via Fashionista:
“I think that too much fashion attention as an artist can actually smother you, and it can actually really, really distract form your music,” the rapper said. “I almost got there with it where…I was this fashion darling. And I was putting out records and the only record anyone would listen to was ’212,’ that was the only Azealia Banks record people would listen to.”Full story..
Honestly artist should never allow another industry or situation to outshine the very reason they hit their certain platform.  You got to roll with the punches too, because the fashion industry can be brutal...for real.
I'm glad AB voiced her thoughts.  Other music artist take heed!
Oh! and here is some new music from Ms. Banks
