Jason Wu's New Gig at Hugo Boss

German clothing line Hugo Boss recently announced the appointment of designer and CFDA member Jason Wu as their new artistic director of their womenswear line. Wu will be taking over from Eyan Allen who has been with the company since 2007. Wu will continue to run his own label Miss Wu {with loyal clients such as Michelle Obama and Anna Wintour} and start his new position at Boss on June 15th. Boss is based in Metzingen, Germany but will be opening a studio in New York where Wu has been based since 2006.

Hugo Boss will be skipping it's traditional Spring-Summer showing at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2014 in Berlin but will present an Autumn-Winter 2014/2015 line under Wu's direction next February in New York. Boss menswear, designed by Kevin Lobo, will present as well.

Congratulations Jason!!

President Obama at NYFW???

President Barack Obama made a uniquely special appearance at New York Fashion Week this year.....as a part of Vivienne Tam's Fall '13 collection.
Tam {Chinese-American designer} presented a line inspired by hope and change {the famous words from both Obama campaigns} with several pieces of the collection featuring sharp Pop-art-esque prints of the POTUS. Tam even took her bow in a dress displaying a rasterized image of President Obama’s likeness; However, this collection was not intended to make a political statement.

“It just came to me, this hope and humor,” Tam explained. “It wasn’t about politics, I just wanted a new dialogue. I wanted to dress a woman with heart, who cares about what’s happening in the world, not just about fashion.”

Check out the Obama designs below

This one is my fave!!!

Designer Vivienne Tam

Looks like the POTUS maybe giving the FLOTUS a little competition in the fashion world.

I like this collection, the images were done very tastefully and are certainly thought provoking conversations starters...and isn't that what true fashion is all about???

FLOTUS Michelle Obama rocks Jason Wu...Again!

Mrs. Obama is such a class act!

I was soo wondering what she was going to wear at this year's inauguration, because last year's gown by designer Jason Wu {which made him a huge designer overnight} was big talk.  My jaw dropped to see it was none other than the amazing Jason Wu AGAIN!!

Doo-Ri Chung leaves Doo.Ri

Another designer leaving their own label!?! WWD recently reported that Doo-Ri Chung is leaving Doo.Ri, the clothing company she founded in 2001. There are no details on why Chung decided to leave, or what she'll do next, although the label was gaining momentum over the last few years. Since winning both the CFDA Fashion Award for Swarovski/Perry Ellis' Up and Coming Designer of the Year and the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, in 2006, Chung dressed our FLOTUS Michelle Obama for a state dinner honoring South Korea {Chung being Korean-American} and designed a high-profile Macy’s capsule collections–two projects that boosted the designer’s name recognition significantly.

"I’m still a very small, young designer. I’m still considered ‘niche’ and I’m always hesitant about being associated with someone that’s much bigger than I am. We’re still trying to make a place for ourselves, and I think having an association with Macy’s will definitely override that. But I think in the end, the partnership was beneficial for everybody." Chung explains at the Macy's launch.

Maybe it wasn't as beneficial as Chung hoped. As far as Doo.Ri goes, "market sources" say Tharanco Group, the company that owns the label, may sell it or shift to a licensing model. Tharanco, however, "wishes Chung well in all her furture endeavors."

Another Fashion Collab

In a week full of designer collaboration announcements, WWD is reporting Narciso Rodriguez, the man behind Caroline Bisset’s iconic wedding dress–and many of our FLOTUS Michelle Obama's outfits–is taking his minimalist aesthetic to the high street by designing a line for Kohl's. The capsule collection is expected to be reveled soon and will be the first installment of a more permanent collaboration between Rodriguez and Kohl’s. There is not a whole lot of info circulating about the collection, that maybe be launching this fall, but the collaboration should make the low profile designer a household name!

If this collection looks anything like Rodriguez' 2012 Fall line then I'll be heading to Kohl's more often! :)
