🎭Geoffrey Holder: A Renaissance Man of Art

Geoffrey Holder

YouTube: visionaryproject

Lena Horne sits for her portrait. Painting her is Geoffrey Holder.
.

Geoffrey Holder was far more than just a multi-talented artist; he was a fashion visionary. A celebrated dancer, choreographer, actor, painter, and director, Holder's creative spirit permeated every aspect of his life, including his bold and distinctive style.

A Caribbean Heritage, A Global Impact

Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Holder's flair for fashion reflected his vibrant Caribbean heritage. He embraced bold colors, striking patterns, and a mix of textures rarely seen in  menswear at the time.  But Holder's style was about more than just where he came from – it was a reflection of his global travels and insatiable curiosity. He blended elements from African cultures, European tailoring, and avant-garde fashion trends to create a style entirely his own.

From the Stage to the Runway

Holder's impact on fashion extended beyond his own wardrobe. As a dancer and choreographer, he often crafted extravagant costumes that were integral to the storytelling and visual drama of his performances.  His work in Broadway productions like "House of Flowers" and "The Wiz," for which he won two Tony Awards, showcased his unique ability to translate movement and emotion into wearable art.

Embracing Individuality

Geoffrey Holder's fashion was characterized by an unwavering sense of individuality.  He frequently wore flowing caftans, embellished suits, and statement headpieces with an air of confidence and authenticity that was impossible to ignore. His style was theatrical, yes, but it was also a testament to his belief in the power of self-expression. Holder once said, "Elegance is an attitude." He embodied this mantra with every outfit he put together, reminding us all that looking good is about feeling good about yourself.

A Continuing Influence

Geoffrey Holder's sartorial legacy continues to inspire designers and fashion enthusiasts alike. His fusion of cultural influences and flamboyant personality paved the way for those who believe that fashion is about more than trends.  It's about embracing your individuality and using clothing as a canvas for self-expression.

Geoffrey Holder was a true original and his daring fashion sense is an enduring testament to his creative genius and enthusiasm for life.

👩‍🏫What Does it Take to Be in Fashion?

🤔Good question! And honestly, all you need is creative vision.👩🏾‍🎨

Fashion is one of the most free spirited industries around.
You can develop a masterpiece on accident and gain new customers.
For example, each designer has a target consumer base.
When designs are loved outside that base, the brand gains new consumers🏧.

Ok, duh...I know {*lol* 😄}
Here's the thing, fashion is really like that!
This is the Fashion Talk that will be expressed in better
detail...via 🎥VIDEOs😆😁!!!

Studio L. Fashae': Casual Dress/Top & High Waist Pants {That Fashion Chick}

Hope you had a great weekend...it was sew-time in Studio L. Fashae' for me! I have to come up with some great RTW samples for  this shoot and stuff coming up a little later. Can't wait to share the full scoop!

Here are just two pieces that I got out the way:

Casual Dress/Top

This is something fun and easy. If I want, I can add a chain belt and style it like a 2-piece set. Some kind of embellishment will be added.

........................

High Waist Pants

These pants fit so good, I'm so proud of myself. I ran out of the checkered fabric, but these turned out great. Some more needs to be added, like stylish buttons.

R.I.P L'Wren Scott, Fashion Designer {Fashion News}

L'Wren Scott with boyfriend Mick Jagger
The fashion industry received sad news today.

It's being reported that fashion designer L'Wren Scott, 47{girlfriend of Rolling Stone rocker Mick Jagger} was found hanged to death in her Manhattan apartment today around 10 am ESTScott was found by her assistant; it seems to be an apparent suicide, though no note has been found.

Like. Whoa.

TFC became more familiar with L'Wren Scott thanks to her big collaboration with Banana Republic last year, as well as being a red carpet fave.  Scott's label is very womanly-chic {for the lady}... L'Wren Scott Rest In Peace.

A spokesperson for Jagger said he is "completely shocked and devastated" by the news.

Runway Love: Christian Siriano New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2014 RTW Collection + Watch This!!

 This latest collection from Christian Siriano is just GORGE! I love to see a designers' growth from collection to collection...remember Siriano won season 4 of Project Runway?!

I loved him immediately; he has that IT for fashion! Christian Siriano also went to AIU-abroad {my dean was so proud}...so I gotta show my fashion love for him! =D

This Fall/Winter 2014 RTW collection is superb..very polished and chic. I feel the chick wearing this collection is a chick of power {like a Anna Wintour *not all looks* or other fashion elite}. Lady-Chic appeal is for 2014. Christian Siriano designs looks that command attention..the different silhouettes have just enough detail. Siriano knows how to edit and the overall styling made my heart grow fonder!

Runway Love: Tanya Taylor Fall/Winter 2014 RTW Collection {New York Fashion Week}

Tanya Taylor
This is a solid collection by up AND coming fashion designer, Tanya Taylor! Designers like her inspire me and give me plenty fashion life. Taylor's Fall/Winter 2014 RTW Collection is full of excitement with every look...she's playing on textures, colors and overall style {different garments}. The chick who rocks these clothes is our type of Chick *wink, wink*!

We've featured Tanya Taylor in our Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2014 Collections {Runway Faves}post HERE. She is one to watch!

via Style.com {Review}:

"It reminded me of a 12-year-old dying her hair. It's bold and a bit quirky," said Taylor backstage before her runway show. While those fun elements felt a tad arts-and-craftsy at times, the young designer successfully balanced them out with classic silhouettes and refined materials that have ageless appeal. Flattering fit-and-flare dresses were cut from either graphic floral jacquards or fluttery silks, for example, and thigh-grazing miniskirts came paired with pointy flats that felt fresh.

Check out a few designs below!

HOT-T-T right?!? Check out the complete collection HERE!

TBT: Willi Smith founder of Williwear - Fashion Designer {Black History Month}

This is Willi Smith a fashion designer declared ”the most successful black designer in fashion history”  by fashion writer Liz Rittersporn, with the New York Times in 1987.

via Simply Kim Ross:

Willi Smith, founder of Williwear in 1976, increased his sales from $30,000 to $25 million in his first year in 1986. His line was featured in more than 500 department and specialtystores. Although he designed for “real people”,  Smith designed for wealthy and prominent people such as suits for Edwin Schlossberg and his groomsmen when he married Caroline Kennedy in 1986. He also designed clothing for Spike Lee’s film, “School Daze”. Smith’s talent for making the most of limited resources extended to the presentation of his fashions. The hallmarks of Smith’s designs are–natural fabrics, a relaxed, comfortable fit, colorful and eye-catching material, and a reasonable price tag.

Good stuff and great fashion inspiration for real!
