Tom Ford London flagship coming in 2013

Photo: StyleNerd.com

Tom Ford has signed a 10 year lease for approximately 5,900 sq ft of retail space for his first opening in the UK. The store will be housed on Sloane Street {201-206} in Knightsbridge and, more than likely, feature his 2013 women's ready-to-wear {shown at London Fashion Week} and men's collections, which until now was only exclusively available at Selfridges.

“The luxury retail sector is performing incredibly well against a challenging economic climate,” said Ed Humbert, senior director at CBRE London, who handled the transaction. “The demand for commercial space in the industry is soaring, especially on Sloane Street and the arrival of Tom Ford will reinforce this trend,”  Humbert added.

The first U.S. Tom Ford outlet will open mid-July in the Woodbury Common shopping center in upstate New York. Ford has a flagship on Madison Avenue, N.Y. and boutiques in Dubai, Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Ford also has a shop dedicated to men’s wear on the rue Francois 1er in Paris, that opened last March.

Another Nike Collaboration

Nike has teamed up with French label A.P.C for a line of pared-down unisex sneakers. The Nike Dunk and Nike Air Max were given a minimalist make-under creating the perfect mix of sporty function and chic style.

“It’s all very classic looking, trainers [shoes] that don’t shout too loudly,” Jean Touitou {head of A.P.C} told WWD. “It will give people the opportunity to wear a trainer with a very chic coat. The reason we are not doing the trainers ourselves is because we don’t have the know-how, Nike does…It’s like I’m not trying to bake bread for myself.”

The sneakers will be available August 30 at A.P.C. stores worldwide and will come in three colors {ecru, navy and brown} and will range from $110 to $150. This collaboration won't be the last for A.P.C and Nike, golfwear, skiwear and training apparel are also being talked about.

Toms by Lenny Kravitz

Did Lenny Kravitz's role as a stylist, {Cinna, in Hunger Games} inspire him to dabble in design?  Maybe....it has recently been discovered that the rock-star/actor has designed a collection of Toms.

Kravitz's collection is injected with the rocker attitude, coming in vibrate colors and prints {not cashmere} which is a switch for the brand. Kravitz's daughter Zoe urged him to do the collaboration with friend Blaky Mycoskie, who happens to be Toms founder; the two have been friends for a couple of years, sharing "a love of music and simple living."

You can get these Vegan friendly shoes for men and women for $54 on Tom's website

DW by Kanye West!!

I previously reported about the talented artist, Kanye West,  allegedly working on a women's wear line in Paris. All of the talk was very true!

Kanye West debuted his highly anticipated women's line, DW by Kanye West (in memory of his late mother Dr. Donda West) for Spring 2012 at Paris' Fashion Week on October 1, 2011.

Familiar faces were in the building sitting front row showing their support including Ciara, Jared Leto, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Anna Wintour, Sky Ferreira and Lindsay Lohan.  Fellow designers were there, Jeremy Scott, Alexander Wang and Sylvia Fendi.  Top models Chanel Iman, Karlie Kloss, Jourdan Dunn and Abbey Lee Kershaw all strutted down the runway in style.

Kanye West had some things to say:
“I’m so scared, I’m so nervous. The biggest conversation I hope I can end tonight is the whole ‘celebrity designer’ thing… That’s the biggest hurdle when you want to get amazing people to work for you.”
"Thank you for anybody that didn't believe, because they motivated us to break our boundaries," he said. "We don't know what the reviews will be, we don't know what they will say, but I got a chance to go to Italy and feel those fabrics. I begged Louis Vuitton to let me do more shoes after my shoes sold out in two weeks, and they did not. I begged Nike, I begged this company to let me do it. And I took out motherf--king loans to get the best models, to get the best designers, to get the best venue. I gave you everything that I had."

If you've been keeping up with my blog, you know my love for celebrities turning into designers is very thin.  Kanye West is a true artist in all aspects, just allowing himself to be free with his talents.  The last statement above puts the icing on the cake for me.  He really went hard for this line and I respect that, just like Gwen Stefani and Jessica Simpson.
