Watch This!!: Modest Street Fashion {On The Streets - Episode 1}

This is some good style inspiration. It may not be your cup of tea per se, but you can get a look at a new wave of street style happening in NYC!

via MSF YouTube:
Modest Street Fashion is a collection of photographs that commemorates the emerging culture of modest street style which has erupted around the world. It is the first book to visually document this ever growing international trend that has exploded from the streets of Kuala Lumpur to the alleys of New York City. Profiling some of the top 'hijabistas' this is a must-have inside look into a twenty-first-century genesis of a faith driven style.

10th Annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards {NYC}

The 10th Annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards took place last night November 11, 2013 in NYC. This is the Fashion Life here!

via the CFDA site:

The Council of Fashion Designers of America and Vogue magazine have created an endowment to support the next generation of American fashion designers. With monies raised, the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund has been established, the stated purpose of which is to generate sufficient income each year to fund significant financial awards to one or more designers and provide business mentoring. Award recipients are selected by a Committee of industry experts, based on the exceptional talent they have already demonstrated in fashion design and their capacity for future distinction in the fashion industry.
 The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Selection Committee annually selects three emerging fashion designers, who receive:
 (1) business mentoring from an established team of fashion industry professionals, in areas such as business planning, marketing, sourcing, production, exporting, etc. and
(2) to encourage and enable the recipients to pursue his/her own independent design plan (one winner at $300,000 and two runners-up at $100,000 each).

This event helps the Fashion Insustry so much, it's an absolute must {future goal}. Check out my post covering the 2013 CFDA Awards here.

FIT has a shoe porn exhibit

Check it out The Museum of FIT in NYC has a new exhibit featuring over 150 pieces of contemporary footwear.  You will see your favorite designers like Christian Louboutin amongst the shoes featured.

This exhibit is important and so necessary, because guess what...shoes are at an all time high {not hard to believe}. Shoes have doubled with in the past decade according to Valerie Steele.

Valerie Steele, museum curator and fashion historian, American women own twice as many shoes on average than they did ten years ago. “We realized that we were in an era of unprecedented shoe obsession,” she told us over email. Steele believes that shoes have taken over handbags as the new “it” accessory, simply because “shoes are more fun than bags.”

A book will be available on April 1 {'Shoe Obssession'} about the entire exhibit.

Check out a few of the shoes in the exhibit below!

Alexander Wang Collaborates With Samsung + {Watch This!!!}

Alexander Wang is teaming up with Samsung to design a limited edition bag. With all that Wang has going on {designing his debut collection for Balenciaga, his first Paris show, and his normal collection}, how could one of this season's most talked-about designers find any time to do anything else? According to WWD, this project probably won't be adding too much to his workload, seeing that the bag will be essentially created by other people.

{The bag will be} inspired by sketches and photos by a group of influencers selected by the designer. The group of stylists, photographers and friends will use the Samsung Galaxy Note II to produce the images, which will serve as a base for Wang to create a print that will be used on the bag. Explains WWD
This bag sounds like it will be a very interesting piece. The bag will be sold at select Alexander Wang boutiques and the brand’s e-commerce site this summer. What's even better is that proceeds from the bag's sales will benefit ArtStart, a New York City charity that aims to nurture the creative talents of at-risk children and youths.

“I am most inspired from my everyday life and the people that surround me, so the idea of a co-creation with the people that I admire and respect the most is very exciting,” said Wang. “This collaboration represents a new way that technology and style can come together. And, through a concerted effort, I am happy to be a part of supporting such a great charity as ArtStart that embraces creativity and art in a way that can change lives.”

On an unrelated, funnier note, check out this spoof video set in Wang's store. It stars MADtv's Bon Qui Qui with cameos by Alessandra Ambrosio, Natasha Lyonne, A$AP Rocky and Simon Doonan.
